We are seeking four (4) participants for a free pilot tour taking place on June 7, 2026, on Ozushima Island in Yamaguchi Prefecture. This tour is limited to English-speaking international visitors or residents only.
Accessible by a short ferry ride from Tokuyama Station on the Shinkansen line, Ozushima is a place deeply shaped by history. Once a training site for the Kaiten—Japan’s human torpedoes during World War II—the island is now drawing attention as a powerful site of dark tourism, where visitors engage thoughtfully with wartime memory and its lasting impact.
This special English tour will be guided by a local college student and offers a rare opportunity to experience both the island’s wartime legacy and its ongoing revitalization efforts. This tour is offered free of charge for one day only to help introduce the experience to a wider international audience.
More than a historical visit, this program invites participants to explore how memory, community, and renewal coexist in one remarkable place.
Please note that NHK, Japan Broadcasting Corporation, will be covering this tour. By joining the tour, participants agree to appear on camera for NHK interviews and coverage.
